Bob's Red Mill

Bob's Red Mill
Bob and Charlee met in 1952. Charlee's decision to create a healthier life for the family by providing them with wholesome natural foods and whole grains, which inspires the couple's whole grain adventure in the first place. Charlee was a regular at the original Bob's Red Mill store, and held many roles in the early days, including hand-packed products.
In 1968, when Bob managed the JC Penney Automotive Center in Reading, California, he happened to visit the public library. There, something attracted him to John Goff's mill, a story about an inexperienced man resurrecting his family's ancestral mill and grinding wheat into flour. This accidental encounter forever changed the course of the Moore family and produced a chain reaction, enriching the lives of everyone who enjoys healthy whole grains.
Bob immersed in the ancient art of stone mills, studied the historic mills and contacted dozens of people and companies in search of millstone and other flour making equipment. Although he found that there were still a large number of mills, most of them were classified into museums! Fortunately, his persistence and interpersonal skills paid off eventually, and he was able to source traditional quartz millstone and other basic equipment from a bankrupt factory in Fayetteville, North Carolina. After a lot of hard work and originality, in 1974, Bob opened a Moore Flour Mill at Quonset Lodge in Reading, California.
A few years later, Bob and Charlie left the Moores Flour Mill to their son and retired to attend seminary in Milwaukee, Oregon. But one day, during a long trek, they stumbled upon an old feed mill—and realized it was for sale. After a lot of conversation and prayer, they decided to strode forward and launch what became Bob's Red Mill Natural Foods. After all, Bob has built Moores’ flour mill from scratch – and this time he started from a real flour mill! Bob quickly implemented a plan (the first major purchase: a $22 coffee pot), and in 1978 he and Charlee opened the door for Bob's Red Mill, attracting public and media attention. Despite the challenges the business faces, their dreams have been growing and thriving since then.
From the outset, Bob and Charlee focused on people rather than profits: their mission is to provide customers with wholesome food, build close relationships with farmers and suppliers, and treat employees with generosity and respect. Thanks to these values, Bob's Red Mill has surpassed their craziest dreams—like a single kernel that keeps breeding until it reaches four corners of the earth.
Today, Bob's RedMill is proudly 100% owned by its staff and we are committed to upholding the values and legacy of Bob and Charlee Moore. We are lucky enough to continue their mission to bring you food that makes you feel good!
