Pratt & Whitney Group P&W is one of the world's famous aero engine suppliers, except General Electric (GE) and Rolls-Royce In addition, larger manufacturers of aircraft engines and military and civilian gas turbines. It is also one of the major defense contractors in the United States.
Pratt & Whitney Company was established in 1925 and started its early production of 9-cylinder air-cooled star piston engines. Its product R-1340 in the 1930s produced a total of 34,966 units. At the end of World War II, Pratt & Whitney had become the largest manufacturer of piston engines in the United States. In 1948, Pratt & Whitney successfully copied the Rolls-Royce "Neon" engine turbojet engine, and then jointly launched his first jet product J48 and axial vortex for civil aviation. Since then, Pratt & Whitney has been providing a variety of turbojet and turbofan engines for the US Air Force and Civil Aviation, and has a lot of new research and development, such as the variable cycle engine J58 (for SR-71 reconnaissance aircraft). Pratt & Whitney also provides engine repair and leasing services. Pratt & Whitney also provides NASA with some spacecraft orbital engines and ramjet engines and has some scientific research projects. Pratt & Whitney’s small engine department has been split and belongs to Pratt & Whitney Canada.
On June 1, 2022, East Hartford, Connecticut, USA - Pratt & Whitney appointed Rick Deurloo as its president of commercial engines.
