Hangzhou Louwailou Restaurant is a famous restaurant with a history of 160 years. It is located at the foot of the lonely mountain of the beautiful West Lake.

Louwailou was founded in 1848 AD (the 28th year of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty). Its founder is Hong Ruitang, who was a failed literati who came to Hangzhou from Shaoxing to make a living. He took three words from the poem by the Southern Song poet Lin Sheng and named his small shop "Louwailou".

At first, Louwailou was "just a bungalow" and was a very inconspicuous small lakeside shop. However, because the owner is good at managing and cooks good dishes mainly based on lake food, he especially attaches great importance to interacting with literati, and his business is becoming more and more prosperous and his reputation is gradually spreading.

In 1926, Hong Shunsen, the descendant of Hong's family, renovated and expanded the Louwai Building, and converted the first floor and one bottom two floors into a "three-story western-style building" with a roof platform, which was equipped with electric fans and telephones, which became the first floor. The modern restaurant in Hangzhou has made its business more prosperous.

In May 1949, Hangzhou was liberated and Louwailou ushered in a new period of development, but by the second half of 1952, there were only 14 employees. In 1955, Louwailou's application for public-private partnership was approved, which changed the nature of the private store. After the public-private joint venture, Louwailou has received strong support from the government and policies, and all aspects of work have improved greatly, especially in restoring the characteristics of famous dishes, which have achieved remarkable results. In 1956, the Provincial People's Government identified 36 famous dishes in Hangzhou, 10 of which were provided by Louwailou. These 10 famous dishes are: West Lake vinegar fish, noodles, beggar children's chicken, oil-burned shrimp, dry fried bells, tomato crumbs, ham and broad beans, fire heel fairy duck, fish head soup, and West Lake water shield soup.
