The Lotus brand has a history of nearly 60 years. In 1982, Colin Chapman, founder of the Lotus Group, passed away. Later, due to debt reasons, the company was forced to sell it. It was successively taken over by the British Automobile Auction Group, General Motors and Bugatti. In 1994, Lotus Group was acquired by Proton PROTON Group in Malaysia until today.
British Lotus Automobile was confirmed to officially enter the Chinese market in June 2011. After the Lotus brand enters the Chinese market, it will independently build sales channels. It will be initially set in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chongqing, and all dealers will have maintenance qualifications. .
In January 2025, the Lotus brand logo and Chinese name were renamed from "Lutus" to "Lotus Sports Car".
