CFM International, officially established in September 1974, consists of French SNECMA and American GE.

Development history

In 1969, the French government proposed a research on the 10t thrust-class turbofan engine in response to the international civil aviation market situation. After analysis and investigation, France's SNECMA Company chose GE as a partner at the end of 1971 to take the core of the US F101 military turbofan engine. The aircraft-based development of engines that meet the requirements of low fuel consumption, low noise and low pollution in the 1980s. In November 1971, the two companies decided to jointly develop a large bypass ratio engine of 10,000 daN. In February 1972, the design and trial production were completed, and in September 1974, CFM International was officially formed, with the engine named CFM56. The first two engines of the trial production were successively tested on the test benches of the two companies. A total of 11 engines were used for development and testing, of which 5 were used for flight tests. In November 1979, it made its first flight on the Boeing 707-320 modified in the United States. It then flew for a total of 130 hours, and at the same time, it completed the necessary tests on the "Fast Sail" flight platform in France. On November 9, 1979, the CFM56-2 engine obtained airworthiness certificates from the United States and France. From the time when the two companies signed a cooperation agreement in 1971 to the time when evidence collection was collected, CFM56 took 7 years, and the development cost cost US$1 billion. The engine was selected to modify the DC-8 aircraft of McDonald Douglas in March 1979, and by 1986, a total of 110 aircraft (4 units each).
