Stentor Music Co. Ltd. was founded in the early 1960s by Michael Chapman Doughty and other members of his family. It grew from a very small beginning to become the UK's leading acoustic instrument wholesale distributor. The company has always focused on various string instruments, focusing on educational instruments. Today, the company still retains this specialization, but the company's commitment to acoustic instruments has also expanded to brass and woodwinds. In addition, Stentor provides a wide range of parts and accessories in the UK and has a better inventory. The company is all involved in the research, manufacturing and improvement of string instruments to the provision of professional wood for handcrafters and the underwriting and organizing large concerts, which makes the display of many international artists possible. Over the past 30 years, Stentor has made great contributions to improving the playing standards of educational instruments.
In 1990, Stentor moved to the freehold site currently located in Reigate. In December 1995, in the century of Stentor, the company opened a wholly-owned subsidiary factory in Taixing, China. The factory hires locals to make Stentor violins, cellos and other string instruments. These products are exported to more than 30 countries, and the company has registered the Stentor trademark in all major markets around the world.
