KONI was founded by A. de Koning in 1857 in Oud-Beijerland, Netherlands. The business started not with the manufacturing of shock absorbers, but with the leather equipment that made horses. Just before World War II, the company began researching shock absorbers. After World War II, telescopic shock absorbers began to be produced. In the early fifties, KONI decided to play a more important role in motorsports to expand the company's reputation. Over time, KONI not only improved the damping of rally cars and racing cars, but also focused on improving the damping of various other commercial vehicles and even industrial projects such as bridges.
Since 1972, KONI has been part of ITT (ITT:NYSE), a globally diversified industrial company with employees in more than 35 countries around the world and customers in about 125 countries.
