Bach
Vincent Bach combines his unique talents as an accomplished musician and a talented engineer to create brass instruments with good sound quality.
Born in Vienna in 1890, Vincent Bach was trained in violin, but then turned to the trumpet when he heard the majestic voice. Although Vincent also showed strong scientific talent and obtained an engineering degree, he gave up his promising career and became a musician. He performed under the stage name of Vincent Bach and achieved musical success while touring across Europe.
World War I forced Vincent to move to New York City, and he arrived with only $5 in his pocket. A letter to conductor Karl Muck won Vincent an audition and a position in the Boston Symphony Orchestra. By the following season, he was the number one trumpeter at the Metropolitan Opera. Vincent's microphone was broken by a repairman while on a tour in Pittsburgh. Vincent has a hard time finding a suitable replacement. During his vacation, he spent time remodeling an old mouthpiece in the basement of the Selmer Music Store.
In 1918, Vincent began to make musical instruments with an investment of $300 to buy a pedal lathe. The business was developing rapidly, and in 1924, the first batch of Bach trumpets were produced. Bach later added trombone to his work around 1928.
At the age of 71, Vincent sold his company. Despite receiving 12 other offers, including some higher ones, Vincent chose to sell it to Conselmer. In 1964, the tools and machinery of Bach's instruments moved from Mount Vernon to their current home in Elkhart, Indiana. Today, these instruments continue to embody high standards of craftsmanship and stick to Vincent's original design and blueprint.
