Brand Introduction

Tama is a Japanese musical instrument brand that manufactures drum kits and hardware, and is affiliated to Hoshino Musical Instruments Co., Ltd. Its models are rich and can adapt to the performance of many types of music such as pop, jazz, metal, hard rock, etc. Among them, TAMA's most popular drum sets are popular series, RHYTHM MATE (Rhythm Companion) and IMPERIALSTAR (Imperial Star), which are cost-effective products specially provided by TAMA for low-income musicians, and have a high sales volume worldwide.

Hoshino Musical Instruments Co., Ltd. began producing drums in 1965, named "Star Drums". The founder's surname Hoshino translated as "Star Drums", so he chose the brand name "Star Drums". The drum was produced in Hoshino's subsidiary Tama Seisakusho, which opened in 1962 to produce Ibanez guitars and amplifiers. In 1966, production of guitars and amplifiers was removed from the factory, while production of drums continued to grow.

In 1974, Hoshino decided to work together to make high-quality drums and hardware and began selling its drums under the Tama brand. Tama is the name of the owner's wife.

Tama and Drum Workshop (DW) jointly acquired the bankrupt Camco Drum Company. As part of the deal, DW acquired Camco's mold and manufacturing equipment, while Tama obtained Camco's name, design, engineering and patent rights.

At that time, Camco was producing drum pedals considered the best on the market. DW continues to produce pedals using the original tools, remarking them as DW5000. Tama began to produce the same pedals under the name Camco. The Tama version of the Camco pedal is often called the Tamco pedal to distinguish it from the original Camco pedal. Tama integrates all Camco's engineering technology into the production process, and the overall quality level of the drum has been improved rapidly.

Hoshino Group has several marketing and wholesale offices around the world. Drums shipped to the U.S. market are assembled and stored in Hoshino (USA) in Ben Salem, Pennsylvania. The US subsidiary also contributed to Tama's market research and development. Tama's product development and professional and expensive drum production are carried out in Seto, Japan, while its hardware and cheaper drums are manufactured in Guangzhou, China.
