Before the invention of hoses, two chemical watercolorists, H. Schmincke and J. Horadam, first had uniquely added resin to become an early and rapidly successful pigment maker. After establishing Schmincke-factory in 1881, Josef Horadam spent 11 years focusing on the research and development of new products and continuous improvement of pigment quality, making his watercolor pigments a well-known watercolor brand in the UK.
