Pearl Musical Instruments Company is a Japanese multinational company specializing in professional musical instruments, especially percussion instruments and flutes. Pearl is headquartered in Chiba, Japan, and has manufacturing plants in Japan, Taiwan, China and the United States, and distributes products to most countries in the world.

Pearl started in 1946 by Katsumi Yanagawa in a small backyard workshop in Tokyo's Sumida District. Katsumi made music stands for the local market in Japan, and as his reputation for quality and craftsmanship continued to improve, he was quickly asked to provide drums. In search of a name that is synonymous with lasting value and reputation, Katsumi chose to name his company Pearl. From these humble beginnings, Pearl has grown into an iconic global leader today. Pearl products are loved and played by millions of musicians, covering a variety of music genres imaginable. From beginners to professionals to some well-known recording artists and live performers around the world, now seven years later, Pearl instruments continue to be true to Katsumi’s vision of value and prestige.

In 1968, Pearl expanded production beyond percussion instruments and opened a handmade flute manufacturing factory at Chiba, Japan. Pearl now has two flute manufacturing bases, and the pearl flute has grown and grown around the world, highly praised by beginners, educators and professional players for its beautiful tone and strict craftsmanship.
