Brand Introduction

Founder Nicholas Paspaley Snr has been in Australia for 100 years. He set out from Castrorisso, Greece, traveled through the oceans of the world, and arrived at Kimberley, the beautiful hometown of pearls in the world.

In the 1930s, with the bold vision of a young entrepreneur, 19-year-old Nicholas bought his first pearl sled. At that time, Bloom, Cossack and Darwin were important pearl harbors in the world. During peak periods, the 80-mile beach and Bloom region account for 75% of the world's mother of pearl production, with more than 400 ships collecting up to 2,000 tons of mother of pearl each year. In the 1950s, demand for mother-of-pearls dropped sharply and the pearl industry was almost destroyed. Navigating in hard helmet diving, frequent hurricanes and other adversities, Paspaley embarks on a journey that will change the craft of pearls forever.

Paspaley divers have been searching for rare mother-of-pearl oysters in northwestern Australia for more than 80 years. In the 1950s, Nicholas witnessed his father's natural pearl territory destroyed by human love for treasure. The invention of overfishing and plastic buttons destroyed the industry, pushing the world's natural nacres to an almost extinction. It is in this context that innovative and dramatic changes emerged—inspired by the success of this approach in Japan, breeding pearls will become the main focus of Australia’s new pearl industry.

The search for a partnership between man and nature is full of challenges. Kimberley is one of the more remote and challenging environments of Mother Nature, and only the complexity of the giant pearl shells discovered by Kimberley requires years of investment and patience to unravel. In the 1950s, Paspaley worked with Japanese experts to continue to develop unique pearl farming technologies and focus on quality.

Today, Paspaley is an important producer of breeding pearls in the world. Although these gemstones still belong to the South China Sea pearl category, Paspaley's pearls have become their own category due to their good quality and widely recognized qualities. Therefore, these gems are generally simply considered Paspaley Pearls.
