In 1980, Mechs was founded by American couple Arnie and Sydell Miller. Before founding Mechis, Arnie Miller worked as a hairdresser for more than 20 years. In 1971, Mr. Miller decided to take a different approach and instead develop false eyelash products. He founded Ardell and promoted the product to retail stores and beauty salons. Later, Ardell developed and launched a hair dye product.
In the late 1970s, facing the shrinking retail market, Mr. Miller sold Ardell in 1980, focusing on building the Mechsi brand and targeting professional hair care institutions as the brand's target group.
