LICAT was founded in Turin by Vittorio Apicella in 1961. It is located in the well-known Borgo San Paolo Industrial Park and is the main supplier of machinery products in Italy. The company's precision torque transmission system is professional, especially in grinding gears. In order to keep up with the growing business needs, the company moved to Grugliasco, a new industrial area located in the suburbs of Turin in 1967, and then created a second factory in Alpignano in 1974, which mainly produces grinding racks and large-sized gears . In 1996, the two products were merged into a large product range and a larger new plant was established in Rivoli's Cascine Vica industrial area.

In 2009, LICAT moved all production lines to a new factory located in the Orbassano Industrial Park. The company divides the entire production department into two independent production lines: one production line manufactures a standard high-precision transmission system, and the other production line is customized according to the customer's special needs. With the establishment of these two new production lines, LICAT production line equipment has been further added, production capacity has been improved and the improvement of production structure has been accelerated.

In 2022, the entire equity was sold to the holding company of the Romani Components Group in Milan, a leader in linear transmission and a dealer/distributor to more than 15 major brands in the Italian and European markets. This synergy allows LICAT to further develop the production capacity of its catalog products and increase its local presence due to the wider presence guaranteed by the Romani Components sales network.

This makes LICAT strong competitiveness in products such as high-precision gears, racks and pinions, worm gears, spiral gears, spline shafts, sector teeth, couplings and front embedded wheels. Generally, LICAT can meet all user requirements in terms of materials, heat treatment, processing and measurement. The company can also accept users' special products, including disposable or user-made materials.

LICAT is usually able to meet all customer needs, including material supply, heat treatment, complete processing and testing. LICAT can also perform specific process operations based on the materials provided by the customer. LICAT is often responsible for destructive/non-destructive testing and inspections, such as the Italian Navy Registration Agency, Lloyds Classification Society, the U.S. Classification Agency, the Italian Navy, the Italian Railway, etc. Insiders shall use it in accordance with SNT regulations.
