On April 1, 1946, Karl Kaps founded the Karl Kaps GmbH & Co. KG.
At first, the company produced parts for movie projectors. However, after the monetary reform in 1948, school and laboratory microscopy expanded the product range. Rifle scopes joined the product portfolio in 1955. Due to close ties with the photography industry, laboratory equipment for film and photo flushing began in 1960. To cope with the recession of this industry, Karl Kaps turned his attention to microsurgery in the 1970s and introduced the prototype of the surgical microscope in 1979.
Today, Karl Kaps GmbH & Co. KG specializes in developing and manufacturing advanced surgical and diagnostic microscopes. The company's high-tech products are used in the fields of otolaryngology, ophthalmology, microsurgery, endodontics and gynecology around the world. Karl Kaps' second business unit is the production and sale of high-quality rifle scopes and binoculars, earning reputations among all passionate natural, animal and bird observers as well as hunters and sports sharpshooters.
The Karl Kaps GmbH is now managed by the Kaps family to the third generation and has always emphasized the supply of high-spec optics in "Made in Germany" quality. Kaps' innovative products are always developed and manufactured in the company's production facilities in Aslar and Wetzlar, Germany.
