In 1949, Olympus Optical Industry was commissioned by doctors from the Affiliated Hospital of the University of Tokyo in Japan to develop a "camera that can photograph the inside of a patient's stomach", which was later the "stomach camera". With Olympus' technical accumulation in the field of optical, a series of repeated experiments, including the production of micro lenses, the discussion of strong light sources, the exploration of main soft pipes, the selection of appropriate films, and the research of waterproofing measures, have been carried out one after another. In 1950, after all the difficulties that were difficult to describe, a stomach camera was created.
It is generally recognized by the medical community that endoscopy is the "gold standard" for gastrointestinal cancer detection. Modern endoscopic technology is different now, and the pain caused by endoscopic testing to patients has been greatly reduced. Olympus' capsule endoscopy for small intestine examination has also been put into clinical use, achieving simple and painless internal diagnosis of the small intestine.
