In 1987, 17-year-old Ding Zhigang and 16 other young people in the village went to Shanghai to learn how to make flutes. Ding Zhigang is the senior brother of Zhou Linsheng, the "Chinese flute master" - Yang Linxiang, senior technician of Shanghai National Musical Instrument Factory. He worked hard and quickly mastered the techniques of mechanical processing, metalworking machinery and flute making. After returning home after completing his studies, Ding Zhigang entered the Shanghai Joint Venture Factory and served as the leader of the flute making team.

By 1994, due to poor economic benefits in the factory, young people had to find another job due to their livelihood. Ding Zhigang then entered the local China-Thailand Radio and Television Station to work. Although he had a "iron rice bowl", he could not forget his skills.

In 2000, he resolutely quit his job, regained his bamboo flute making skills, and founded the Jiangyun Musical Instrument Factory, specializing in the production of Chinese bamboo flute, flute and chlamba ethnic instruments. He had only one idea in his mind: to carry forward the flute making skills.

The Zhongtai Bamboo Flute uses locally produced bitter bamboo as raw material. The production process is very particular, including more than 70 processes such as baking bamboo, drawing lines, drilling, tuning, and lacquering. Each one has strict standards. Ding Zhigang insists on it. In addition to traditional techniques, we dare to innovate. In 2004, he developed a flute punching machine. At that time, all flutes used manual hole openings, which not only took a long time, had a high labor cost, but also did not achieve the accuracy of mechanical hole punching. The hole punching machine developed by Ding Zhigang gave a shot in the heart to improve the quality of the Zhongtai bamboo flute. In addition, he switched to electric oven baking instead of charcoal baking, which improved the environmental protection and efficiency of bamboo baking. Regarding the style of the flute, Ding Zhigang also insists on launching one or two new products every year. He said: "Only with innovation can we attract more young people to join and maintain eternal vitality."

For more than 20 years, Ding Zhigang has always believed in the craftsmanship spirit of craftsmen, and has never stopped working hard. Mr. Zhou Linsheng, a master of Chinese flute, commented that he was "low-key. Although there were often experts who came to ask for flutes, he never showed off his own flaunts, but just silently made every flute."
