The story of Autolite® began in 1911 when two small companies began producing car lights and became a booming auto parts manufacturer in the 1930s.
But its history as a spark plug manufacturer began in 1935, when Royce G. Martin, president of Electric Autolite Company, equipped the lab to develop the first Autolite spark plug. Leading the project is ceramic engineer Robert Twells, who eagerly studies current patented and ceramic insulator technology. With a few new drafting staff and staff, it took Electric Autolite Company only a few months to distribute spark plugs. Autolite achieved instant success as the brand provided spark plugs and other ignition components to well-known automotive leaders including Chrysler, Studebaker, Packard and Willys.
