ASML is an innovator in the semiconductor industry, providing chip manufacturers with everything they need to produce patterns on silicon through lithography.
ASML is one of the leading manufacturers of chip manufacturing equipment. This is a common misconception that ASML makes chips, also known as microchips or integrated circuits (ICs), but in fact, lithography machines designed and manufactured are an important part of chip manufacturing. ASML's customers are companies such as Intel, who use ASML's machines to make microchips in "fabs" (microchip manufacturing plants) for many electronic devices, including smartphones, laptops, etc.
ASML is no longer the abbreviation for anything, although it does have a root cause. In 1984, when ASML was established as a joint venture between Philips and ASM International, it chose the name "Advanced Semiconductor Materials Lithography" and used it as "ASM Lithography" to reflect the partners in the joint venture. Over time, the name becomes "ASML". With more than 32,000 ASML employees paying wages and signing flexible contracts at offices in more than 60 locations around the world, the company is headquartered in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, where more than half of its employees work.
