Brand Introduction

When Westye Bakke started cooling experiments in the 1930s, he was looking for a way to store insulin. His youngest son, Bard, needs insulin to control teenage diabetes. In 1943, Westye built his freestanding refrigerator with hand-bent coils and scrap metal in the basement. Westye established Sub-Zero in 1945 and launched the ultra-low-temperature food preservation system, which quickly established a reputation for quality and innovation.

Adhering to Westye’s early pioneering efforts, Sub-Zero continues to improve and invent ways to keep food fresh and reduce waste. Sub-Zero pioneered a dual refrigeration system that equips refrigerators and freezers with separate cooling systems, which prevents the rapid deterioration of fresh food and minimizes the energy consumption of refrigerators. Sub-Zero's refrigeration is equipped with an air purification system (based on NASA-developed technology) that filters ethylene and odors in the air every 20 minutes. The doors of the Sub-Zero refrigeration equipped are all designed for preservation, and the seals are very firm, and some owners reported that frozen food did not thaw after many days of power outage.

In Sub-Zero, functionality always precedes the form, but that doesn't prevent its design from becoming a somewhat imitated design—such as the bold look of the louvered pane grille above the dual compressor. Over the years, Sub-Zero has expanded its design leadership with integrated refrigeration to blend with your decor.
