Sterilite is the largest plastic household goods manufacturing company in North America, with its headquarters in Massachusetts. The company has business centers in Alabama, Ohio, South Carolina and Texas. It was founded in 1939 and officially entered the plastics industry in the 1960s. Plastic products manufacturer Sterilite Corp plans to build a large manufacturing plant and distribution center in Davenport, Iowa. The project will cost $73 million to acquire homes and land, with a total area of 25,000 square feet, and is expected to create 500 new jobs over the next five years. Mayor Davenport announced the project on January 3. On January 4, the city organized a council to discuss the proposal, mainly discussing whether it would receive rewards from several local and institutional ones in approving Sterilite's plan. In addition, Sterilite will receive approximately $17.7 million in local fund support. The factory is expected to officially start construction in early 2018 and will become the city's largest building by then. The construction site is located in an industrial center in eastern Iowa, covering 160 acres.
