Shure started out in the wholesale industry. In 1925, SNShure established the "Schul Brothers Co., Ltd." in Illinois, USA. Its business is to wholesale radio components to small household businesses that assemble radios. It was in the 1930s that prompted the company to switch from wholesale to manufacturing.

The Great Depression in the United States in the 1930s and the market changes in the radio assembly industry's shift from home to factories led to a new direction for Shure's company to start producing microphones. In 1932, Shure launched the first batch of products, including the dual-pressure carbon essence microphone, which made Shure a leader in this industry in one fell swoop. The subsequent capacitive microphones, crystal microphones and one-way microphones made with single components also made Shure a pioneer in the global microphone manufacturing industry.
