In 2013, Rhopoint Instruments launched the Optimap PSD, marking a revolution in the field of surface quality control. Subjective visual assessment can be replaced by representative measurements. Optimap is a portable instrument for drawing and measuring surface texture. Surface textures are used to quantify visible defects such as orange peel, corrugation and DOI problems. It can also be used to identify local defects such as inclusions, pinholes, flow marks, depressions, bubbles, etc.

In one operation, Optimap plots the topographic map of the test surface, showing the faults and textures in incredible details. The mapped information is processed to be used to effectively control product quality as an objective surface measurement.
