In 1962, Tsutomu Katoh and Tadashi Osanai co-founded the predecessor of KORG - Keio Gijutsu Kenkyujo Ltd (Keio Institute of Technology).

Before the company was founded, Katoh was responsible for running a nightclub. Osanai is a well-known local accordionist, and is also a top student in engineering from the University of Tokyo. He will perform regularly in the club run by Katoh. Every time you perform, Osanai needs to use a Wurlitzer Sideman drum machine. However, since the performance of this drum machine was not satisfactory, Osanai had the idea of making a better drum machine by himself. This idea was immediately supported by Katoh's strong financial support, and it was also in this context that the Keio Institute of Technology was officially established.
