The predecessor of JTEKT is Koyo, founded in 1921 and Toyota Machinery (TOYODA) founded in 1941.

Koyo was founded in 1921 and was founded by Soichiro Ikeda. In 1935, Koyo Seiko Co., Ltd. was reorganized into "Koyo Seiko Co., Ltd.". Based on the production of bearings called "industry rice", it has developed into a famous bearing manufacturer after decades of development. In 1998, it began to produce electronic control four-wheel drive chain ITCC, and in 2003, it acquired Bosch Automotive's TORSEN business unit and began to produce TORSEN differentials.
