Hetronic was founded in 1982 and was produced by the GR radio remote control in the same year. In 1988, Heckl Electronic became Hetronic Steuersysteme GmbH, launching GL transmitters using SMD technology and obtaining tü safety certification. In the early 1990s, Hetronic Steuersysteme released TG, HH, ERGO, NOVA and GL transmitters and introduced standard systems for tower cranes.

In 1992, Hetronic Steuersysteme obtained ISO 9001 certification and produced the 25000th radio remote control, and by the end of the decade, Hetronic had a production capacity of more than 20,000 systems per year. In 1993, Hetronic USA was registered and established in Oklahoma City, USA, and in the same year it became the headquarters of Hetronic International. In 1994, Hetronic obtained a PTB-approved explosion-proof Ex radio remote control.

By the end of the 20th century, Hetronic had discovered new emerging market applications and continued its international expansion, registering in Malta, Ecuador, Japan and Australia. In 2000, Hetronic International was located in Oklahoma City, USA. In 2001, as Hetronic entered new markets, the product line continued to expand, and new transmitter and receiver series were launched, such as NOVA, POCKET and MFSHL series. In 2002, Hetronic continued its global expansion and continued its international expansion, including Hetronic Canada and Hetronic Asia.

In 2008, Hetronic International Inc. was acquired by Methode Electronics Inc. (NYSE: MEI). Since the acquisition, Hetronic has further expanded its global presence with services and support agencies in more than 50 countries. In 2015, Hetronic opened a manufacturing plant in Samaya, Egypt, further expanding its global operations. In 2017, Hetronic continued its global expansion and opened another manufacturing facility in Monterrey, Mexico. In 2018, the ambient temperature range of explosion-proof batteries expanded to -30℃ to 60℃. In 2019, the innovative and highly ergonomic ERGO S handheld transmitter is launched with a full-color TFT screen and optional mini joystick.

Hetronic continues to fulfill its commitment to industrial process control equipment operators through technological advancements in hardware and software and expands new markets around the world. New radio remote control solutions have been and are being introduced into new markets. These include drones, drones and UGVs, railways (remote-controlled locomotives), oceans and mobile hydraulics. In addition, Hetronic expands its design capabilities and integrates innovative RF, display, video feedback and sensor technologies into the product to meet customer safety and performance requirements. Hetronic's continuous improvements to manufacturing processes accelerate purchase order-to-ship turnover and improves its ability to reach world-class levels.
