Upman, the English name H.UPMANN, was founded in 1844. In 1984, a British company named J. Frankau Co. acquired the cigar brand and operated the factory, which is still in production today. The leader is Benito Molina.
It was not until 1935 that the factory was sold to the newly formed Menides-Garcia Tobacco Company. In 1944, a new Upman factory opened in Calle Amistad, Havana to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of Upman Enterprise.
Handmade Uppman cigars are also produced at United Cigar Company in Dominican. It uses Cameroonian wrappers and Latin American gooseberry. It has a cigar of quality, excellent manufacture, mild to medium-rich flavor, and is usually made with a reddish-brown oily wrapper. There are 12 sizes for boxed cigars, and there are 6 sizes for tube cigars. The label on the non-Havana Upman cigars is printed with the words "H.Upmann 1844", while the Cuban one is printed with the words "H.Upmann Habana".
