In 1947, William N. Lane and two partners formed General Binding Corporation (GBC) to meet the binding equipment needs of the Chicago professional printing industry. The company quickly took off in the early 1960s and launched the Combo rubber banding machine, making mechanical binding easy for users to use. A few years later, in 1966, GBC introduced a desktop plastic sealing machine, making the plastic sealing technology light and easy to use. Later, GBC launched the shredder business in 1973. And in 1996, the visual communication products were expanded. Through years of innovation and development, GBC has successfully improved binding and plastic packaging technology to provide a variety of fast, simple and complete document finishing solutions that meet all business needs.
GBC merged with ACCO Brands Corporation (ACCO) in 2005 to become one of the largest suppliers in the office supplies industry in the global office supplies industry. ACCO sells products to more than 100 countries around the world through its own sales team and numerous distribution networks.
