Garmin was founded in 1989 and was co-founded by Dr. Min Kao and Gary Burrell. Dr. Gao Minhuan and Gary Burrell worked together, and they specialized in the fields of aerospace technology industry, GPS, navigation and aeronautical electronics. The brand name Garmin is a combination of the two names - Gary and Min.
