Brand Introduction

In nearly 40 years, APC has become the industry standard for reliable power and IT infrastructure. Now, whether on the user side of IT infrastructure or in a huge channel partner system, relying on innovative pasts, we provide key power, management and data security solutions to organizations and enterprises around the world.

In 1981, American Power Conversion Corporation was established to focus on the research and development of solar power. The company, formed by three power engineers at MIT, then opened a factory in Rhode Island in 1986; it also produced its first UPS, 450AT+, which won the PC Magazine's "Editor's Choice" Award. In 1988, APC stock was successfully listed and traded.

In 1989, the award-winning PowerChute® software was launched, which revolutionized power management; in the same year, the product was licensed to market two major dealers, Tech Data and Ingram Micro. In 1990, APC continued to launch outstanding products, such as the Smart-UPS® product range, which is now highly recognized by the industry. In the same year, the company's president and CEO Rodger B. Dowdell, Jr. was awarded the title of "Entrepreneur of the Year" by Inc. Magazine.
Throughout the 1990s, APC launched 155 new products and entered different application fields, such as SurgeArrest® surge protector; Matrix-UPS®, the industry's first modular UPS; the new generation of Smart-UPS; the company's first Back -UPS Pro® UPS; and the Symmetra® Power Array™ series that brings industry change. With the development of these products, the completion of two international production bases (Galway, Ireland in 1994 and Philippines in 1996), and the acquisition of Systems Enhancement Corp. and Silcon A/S, APC's annual operating income exceeded in 1998. $1 billion.

APC entered the residential market in 1999 with PowerShield, a solution for home broadband and fixed wireless broadband. Since then, the company has entered a new millennium with three strategic mergers and acquisitions. These three acquisitions have opened up three markets: the DC power supply market for communication equipment; the network connection market for home and enterprise IT; and the precision refrigeration market for data centers and communication equipment. After the acquisition of ARRIS in 2001, APC further expanded its strength in broadband network power supply. In 2002, APC launched PowerStruXure™, the first product in its Crypto Physical Infrastructure (NCPI) architecture, revolutionizing data center power management. In the same year, the company entered the Nasdaq 100 index.

InfraStruXure™ was first launched on the market in 2003. Its integrated power, refrigeration, cabinets, management and services enable an open, adaptable and integrated solution, winning nearly 20 awards worldwide. The TravelPower™ Case with built-in charging capabilities also achieved immediate success when it was launched. In 2004, InfraStruXure's product line expanded to the fields of refrigeration systems and online power generation. In the same year, APC won more than 100 awards worldwide for its outstanding performance in its products and business. Rooted by the success of PowerStruXure since 2002, APC expanded its NCPI capabilities after acquiring Netbotz. Netbotz is a startup-stage technology company dedicated to solving the physical security issues of IT equipment, and it allows APC to extend the industry's professional power to the management and security categories.

On February 14, 2007, APC was acquired by Schneider Electric. This set up a key power supply business department.
